Barracuda Spam Filter

Contents

What it Does

The Barracuda Spam Filter is Concordia University's main line of defense against spam. The filter sifts through email and withdraws those that it believes are spam. Occasionally it may quarantine some emails that are not spam, so it is a wise idea to look at the Barracuda Spam Filter Report regularly and white list anything that is not spam.

Access Filter Settings

Go to http://mail.csp.edu:8000 and log in using network user name and password.

How to install the toolbar for Outlook

To install the Barracuda Filter toolbar into your wireless, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Barracuda website found at http://mail.csp.edu:8000
  2. At the login page click Get Mail Client Plugins Here
  3. A new web page will come up, giving you a short description about its features and allowing you to download.
  4. Click Download
    1. If it asks you to check Save to disk, the install will then be saved to your desktop as outlook_plugin_V2
  5. Go to your desktop and double click the file
  6. Click next
  7. Accept the license agreement if you so choose to, followed by next
  8. Click next again
  9. Next one more time
  10. And finally Finish!

The toolbar will be located up by the current toolbars in Outlook and it will have two icons. A green check mark and a red "X" mark. Simply select an email message and then click either the green check mark or the red "X" mark.

Disable Barracuda

The IT department does not recommend disabling the Barracuda spam filter, however if a user insists on having the filter disabled, their identity needs to be verified, and their username needs to be sent to Network Services.
