CD-DVD drive

What is it and what does it do?

The CD drive is located on the right hand side of the computer; its main purpose is to run any form of CD, ranging from DVDs, to software, to music CDs. This drive can also be used to make CDs and DVDs.

Troubles

If your CD-DVD drive seems to have problems with playing or reading a disk, use some of the following troubleshooting ideas to try to solve the issue.

  1. Check to see if a disk is in the drive, that it has data on it, and that it isn't damaged.
  2. Check to see if the drive shows up in My Computer. If it does, the disk is probably damaged or needs to be reloaded.
  3. If it does not show up here, go to My Computer, then click "View system information" located on the left hand side. Then click the "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager." Click the plus sign beside "DVD/CD-ROM drives" and check to see if MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ 850 z is there.
  4. If it's not there, try scanning your computer for hardware by clicking the farthest right icon at the top of the device manager window. It should say "Scan for hardware changes" when you hover over it.

If none of the above work, then you should bring it down to the Help Desk where they will attempt to...

  1. Uninstall and reinstall the driver.
    1. Right click on MATSHITA DVD/RAM > Uninstall.
    2. Then add the driver by running Add Hardware in the Control Panel. If this fixes the problem, you are finished.

If the above steps do not correct the problem then...

  1. It might be a problem with the CD-DVD drive (It has to go down to the Techshop to be determined)
  2. It might be a problem with the mother board (It has to go down to the Techsop to be determined)
