Changing a Student's Name

Online Learning Module

Overview

WebCT usernames are generated by the student’s legal name. However, some students prefer to call themselves by a name other than their legal one and would like to be known by that name within WebCT courses. It may be necessary to make this change within a WebCT course because a student consistently refers to themselves by a diminutive form of their name or if two students have the same name in the class. If a student requests a legal, permanent name change, they will need to contact the Bear Center. In order to make a non-legal name change within an individual WebCT course, the course instructor can change the student record for that course alone. Therefore, the instructor of each WebCT course must manually apply non-legal name changes. The student will be solely responsible for contacting the respective instructor to make a non-legal name change.
