Chat Transcripts

The Chat Transcripts link from the main Chats page will show a chronological list of all chats that have taken place within the Click here for Weekly Chat link. As new chats are completed within this room, the dialogue is appended to the bottom of the previous dialogue within the same transcript.

Copying a Chat Transcript to Your Computer

  1. Open the respective course. Make sure you click on the View tab. Click on the Chats page.
  2. Click on the Chat Transcripts link.
  3. Click anywhere inside the chat transcript.
  4. Go to Edit, Select All.
  5. Go to Edit, Copy.
  6. Open Microsoft Word.
  7. Go to Edit, Paste.
  8. Go to File, Save As... to save your transcript to your computer.

Adding Additional Transcripts

In order to allow students to view the other chat transcripts from Room 2, 3, and 4, you will need to manually add each new transcript onto the Chat page. To do this:

  1. Open the respective course. Make sure you are in the Designer view. Click on the Chats page.
  2. On the right-hand side, under the Actions menu, click Add page or tool.
  3. On the left side, under Pages, click Single page.
  4. Enter a title for this item (i.e. "Room 2").
  5. Click the Browse... button.
  6. In the File Browser window, click on the "chat" folder.
  7. Select the "Room2.txt" (or whatever room you are selecting) radio button.
  8. Click the Add Selected button.
  9. Check the box labeled, On an Organizer Page:. Verify that "Chats" is in the drop-down box.
  10. Click the Add button.
  11. On the Chats page, click the View tab and review your transcript.

Restoring Your Original Transcript

If you accidentally deleted your original chat transcript. Follow the instructions above. However, in step 4, label the file "Chat Transcripts". Then, in step 7, choose the file "Room1.txt."

Removing Text from Transcripts

To delete text from a chat transcript, do the following:

  1. On the left-side of your course, under Designer Links, click on the Manage Files link.
  2. On the next page, find the Chat folder. Within this folder is a file called "Room1.txt." Check the box to the left of the file.
  3. Within the Actions menu on the right-side of your course, click on the Edit button.
  4. Within the File Content field, select the text that you wish to delete. Click once inside the field and then press <Ctrl+A> to select all the text. Then, press the <Delete> key on your keyboard.
  5. Click on the Update button.
