Disable Infrared Communications for Windows XP

What is Infrared Communications?

A communication protocol that uses infrared light to send data from one computer to another. It is a very slow technology. Also, it is the same technology used between a television an its remote control. In Windows XP it is a feature that has a notification sound attached to it which has been described as a "bomb" sound.

Disabling Infrared Communications

To disable Infrared Communications:

  • Go to Start
  • Then click on Control Panel
  • Then go to Wireless Link
  • While there uncheck all of the boxes under the first tab
