What is a Hard Drive?

A Hard Drive is a physical computer component which stores volumes of information, such as files, programs and the computers Operating system are all stored on the hard drive.

ThinkVantage Active Protection System

Concordia's laptops have an Active Protection System that helps prevent shock damage to your hard drive. It stops the hard drive disk when it detects motion therefore preventing scratches from being made on the disk.

Caring for your Hard Drive

Through the process of running your computer, and moving files periodically your hard drive will begin to slow down and become sluggish. This also will happen when over 75% of the space on the drive is consumed (ie: if you have a 40GB Laptop hard drive and you have over 30GB on it, you will notice a significant performance loss being that it takes longer for the reading mechanism to read the outer edges of the disk (think how CD's spin slower when you get to towards the outside of the disk).

To resolve this or keep you hard drive working at peak performance you should do the following:

  1. Keep only the files you need on your computer, this eliminates excess buildup of files on your machine.
  2. Keep you computer internet Cache and cookies cleared.
  3. Run NOD32 and Ad-Aware SE to prevent buildup of malicious software which tend to scramble up our computer drives with useless things.
  4. Lastly, you should defragment your Hard Drive at least once a month. This keep all your files and folders in order without "pieces" of them floating all over you computer. To learn how to do this go to our defragementing page
