Microsoft Office 2007 File Format
Microsoft Office 2007 has changed the default file save documents of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from the standard formats they used in Microsoft Office 2003. It is possible to change the default save format for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Documents in Microsoft Office 2007 so that these documents are more accessible to individuals who do not currently run the latest version of Microsoft Office.

Changing the Default Save Format
- Click on the Office Button.
- On the keyboard type the letter " i " this will open the options window.
- In the left-hand column of the Options window select Save.
- In the Customize how documents are saved. window you will see a drop down box entitled -- Save files in this format:
- Change the drop down box to the preferred format.
- Note:For best compatibility with earlier versions of Office select the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint 97-2003.
- Change the drop down box to the preferred format.
- Finally click OK to save the options
The new defaults will be set at this point.
