What is a Microsoft Update?

A Microsoft Office Update helps the user keep his/her software up-to-date.

Steps to run a Microsoft Update

  1. Go to your Start menu and then click on Control Panel.
  2. On the left-hand side, if you have the option to Switch to Classic View, select that. This will change the icons you see in the control panel.
  3. Click on the Automatic Updates icon.
  4. Click on the setting you want. Be sure that Automatic Updates are not turned off (this would be the last option).

What is validation?

Validation is a process that ensures the computer you are using is running a certified copy of Microsoft windows.

Every piece of Microsoft software installed on a Concordia-owned computer has valid copy of Microsoft Windows and Office. This however does not stop Microsoft from wanting to make sure that your software is valid.

How do I make sure my software is valid?

To make sure you software is valid you can visit this site while using Internet Explorer. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx


If an information bar appears saying that you may need to use ActiveX control click on Install ActiveX.In the window that appears click install and windows will tell you if you are running a valid copy of Microsoft word or office.
