Outlook from home
Many faculty and staff members find it convenient to check their e-mail from home using the full version of Microsoft Outlook. Recent upgrades to our security certificates have caused some changes to the standard settings for accessing Outlook from home.
R61 Configuration Steps for Outlook 2007
Please verify the settings of Microsoft Outlook by following all of these steps:
- Reboot your computer.
- Do not start Microsoft Outlook
- Click on the Start button.
- Select the Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Mail icon. If you do not see the Mail icon, click on the Switch to Classic View link on the left side of the window.
- In the Mail Setup - Outlook window, click on the E-mail Accounts... button. The E-mail Accounts wizard will appear.
- Select your account and click on the Change button above your account.
- In the Microsoft Exchange Settings window click on the More Settings button in the bottom right corner of the window.
- In the Microsoft Exchange window select the Connection Tab. Then click on the Exchange Proxy Settings button at the bottom of that window.
- Then make sure that the dialog beneath the words "Only connect to proxy servers..." is empty and then uncheck the box next to "Only connect to proxy servers...".
- Hit "Ok"
- Hit "Apply" then "Ok"
- Hit "Next" then "Finish"
- Finally "Close"
You will be prompted for a Username and Password when trying to log in to Outlook from home. Please be sure that your username follows the "csp\username" format otherwise you will not be able to connect.
Configuration Steps for Outlook 2003
Please verify the settings of Microsoft Outlook by following all of these steps:
- Reboot your computer.
- Do not start Microsoft Outlook.
- Click on the Start button.
- Select the Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Mail icon. If you do not see the Mail icon, click on the Switch to Classic View link on the left side of the window.
- In the Mail Setup - Outlook window, click on the E-mail Accounts... button. The E-mail Accounts wizard will appear.
- Under the E-mail heading, ensure that the View or change existing e-mail accounts radio button is selected. Click the Next button.
- In the E-mail Accounts window, ensure the Microsoft Exchange Server account is highlighted. Click the Change... button.
- Note: If you have multiple accounts listed please contact the Help Desk for further assistance.
- In the Exchange Server Settings window, click on More Settings...
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server window, click on the Connection tab.
- Under the heading Exchange over the Internet, ensure the box next to Connect to my Exchange Mailbox using HTTP is checked.
- Click on the Exchange Proxy Settings... button.
- In the "Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange:" field, type webmail.csp.edu.
- Check the box next to Connect using SSL only.
- Ensure that the "Mutually Authenticate the session when connecting with SSL box" is NOT checked.
- Ensure that the On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box is NOT checked.
- Ensure that the On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box is checked.
- Under the "Proxy authentication settings" heading, ensure NTLM Authentication is selected in the drop-down box.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button again.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button.
- Click the Close button.
- Restart your computer.
- From now on, Outlook will prompt you for your username and password. This is an additional level of security. You should enter your username in the CSP\username format. The password you will use is the same password you use to log in to your computer.
When you bring your Concordia University-issued laptop home, you will now be able to plug it into your home network connection and use the Outlook client as you would at work.
