WebCT Course Overview
| Online Learning Module |
Concordia University employs a standard template for all WebCT courses. Because of this standardization, your instructor may not use all of the tools. Similarly, some tools that you use frequently may be located under another main heading. If you have used older versions of WebCT, some tools could be in a different location or within a different icon than they are now in WebCT 4.1.
NAVIGATION
As with all other web applications, access items by single clicking on them (as opposed to double clicking). You may navigate your course by clicking on the icons in the main section. You may also click on the Course Menu items on the left side of the page to get to the main course components. As you navigate the course, you will also see “breadcrumbs” at the top of the page that show you where you have been. You may click on these links as well.
SYLLABUS
Click on this link to access your course syllabus. The course syllabus should be available two-to-three weeks prior to the start of a course. If the syllabus is not loaded prior to the start of the course, you will receive a message; “There are no sections in the Syllabus,” when you click on the Syllabus link. Contact your course instructor since they are responsible for all course content. Some syllabi are PDF files, so make sure you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.
CLASSROOM
There are four sections within the Classroom link. Not all instructors use these items, but they are detailed below:
- Course Material: Course related materials, other than your syllabus may be posted here. If you have trouble accessing documents in this area, you may need the updated version of Adobe Acrobat (see instructions in Syllabus section).
- Assignments: If your instructor would like you to submit assignments directly into WebCT, they will have them posted here. More information about this function is available from the Assignments page.
- Links: Your course instructor may post links for you to visit that relate to your topic of study.
- Student Homepages: You may create your own homepage that your classmates and instructor can view. WebCT provides you with tools to create the page. Therefore, prior knowledge of Web page creation is not necessary. More information about this tool is available at the WebCT student homepage help section.
