Discussion Boards

Discussion Board postings are not visible.

In most cases you will just need to click the Update Listing button within the discussion board area. If this still does not work, try clicking Compose Message and post a message of your own. If the message shows up after hitting post, then hitting update listing again then contact your instructor.

Discussion Board postings seem jumbled and out of order.

Make sure that the All and/or Threaded buttons do not have a box around them. The boxes should be around the Unread and Unthreaded buttons. To get the boxes around the Un's, you need to click on All and/or Threaded.

Chat

When I click on the "Click here for Weekly Chat" room link, nothing happens.

You need to complete a Browser Tune-up.

I get a java error when I click on the chat room link.

When I am in the chat rooms, I continually get booted out.

When I post messages, students can't see them.

Make sure that in the chat student list on the right side of the chat room that no students names are highlighted. If this is the case, make sure to click once on their names to un-highlight them. You should now be able to chat normally.

When I looked at the chat transcripts, I had no posts.

Only the first four rooms are logged, not the general chat rooms. Also make sure that in the chat student list on the right side of the chat room that no students names are highlighted. If this is the case, make sure to click once on their names to de-select them. You should now be able to chat normally.

Course Content

My syllabus or other documents that are supposed to appear in WebCT are not there.

If it is less than two weeks from the start of your course, the instructor should have already posted a syllabus. Syllabi (student guides) should not be uploaded to WebCT until two weeks prior to the start of the course. This saves trouble of students downloading outdated syllabi.

How do I fix, "This document has not been made available in student view"?

This occurs when instructors haven't updated the student view on some of their updated documents. After adding content, the instructor should click on the Update student view button located under the Content Module option.

Course Access

How do I get access to a course?

If you are requesting access to a traditional course, please fill out the Non-Cohort Course Creation Form.

If you are requesting access to an SCS course. Please contact the SCS Department directly and they will give you course access.

If you are requesting access to a cohort course, please contact your program chair and they will give you course access.

Instructor Access

How do I change the name listed as designer of my WebCT course?

  1. Login to WebCT and click on the appropriate course.
  2. Verify that you have the Designer Options tab selected.
  3. Click on the Course Settings link located on the left under Designer Links.
  4. The instructor's name will appear and you can change it from there.
  5. At the bottom of the page, click on the Update button.
