WebDAV

WHAT IS WEBDAV?

According to http://www.webdav.org/, WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It is a set of extensions to the HTTP protocol, which allows users to collaboratively edit and manage files on remote web servers. What this means to WebCT is that it gives you the functionality to move files from your computer into WebCT using Windows versus having to upload individual files using the WebCT file management system. Therefore, using WebDAV, there is no need to zip up multiple files just to move them; you can just click-and-drag them into WebCT.

SETTING UP WEBDAV

  1. Login into WebCT and navigate to your myWebCT page.
  2. Click on the WebDAV info button Image:webdav1.jpg.
  3. You will see all your courses listed along with the course file web addresses.

  4. The course web address you need in order to use WebDAV is displayed after Course files:. Highlight the address for the desired course, then go to Edit, Copy <Ctrl+C>.

  11. At the prompt, enter your WebCT username and password.
  12. Next, you will need to enter in a name for the network place. You probably want to name it the name of your course. Click Next.

  13. A confirmation screen will appear. Click Finish.
  14. Your class opens.

  15. Now when you create a lecture or handout you can just save it to this directory and it will be in your course. You can also copy existing files and paste them in your course directory. No more uploading and zipping files into WebCT.
