What is a ZIP file?

A .zip file is a compressed version of the file of your choice.

One of the main benefits of creating .zip files the amount of space you can save on your computer by compressing your files into .zip folders.

If you're using Windows XP, it already has the ability to create .zip files.

To create a .zip file,

First, find and select all files you wish to zip. (To select more than one, hold down the Ctrl button while selecting. Holding down the shift bar will select all files between the one selected and the next one you select.)
Right-click on on of the selected files.
Select Send To and then Compressed (zipped) Folder.

This will create a .zip file in the same directory.
